Our Philosophy

The COMO Foundation supports non-profit organisations with fresh approaches to closing the income and opportunity gap for women and girls with significant unmet needs, with a view of strengthening societies as a whole. 

By focusing on women, we believe progress passes among families to improve their futures. At the same time, we encourage a strong sense of community through local ownership, peer support, mentoring and collective decision-making.

Working directly with implementing partners in development, education and healthcare, the Foundation enables projects specifically targeting women and girls in the following areas:

1. access to knowledge, information and education, both formal and functional
2. income generation and social enterprise
3. addressing the “bottom of pyramid penalty”
4. protection and reintegration of at-risk women and girls into society

The job of bridging the income and opportunity gaps for these women and girls is enormous, and the Foundation does not work alone. The Foundation provides grants to local organisations and links them to specialised competencies found within the COMO Group, such as fashion, retail, marketing and design. The Foundation also collaborates with other philanthropic organisations that share our goals. The Foundation also draws upon the collective experience and knowledge of the staff from the entire COMO Group to identify new partners and facilitate communication.
